How is God good?

God’s goodness is demonstrated in His desire for us to know Him. Even though we are born sinners, meaning we are not in fellowship with Him nor know Him, and sin as a result of being born sinners, meaning our actions push us further from being in fellowship with Him and knowing Him, He still desires for us to be in fellowship with Him and to know Him.

He demonstrates His will throughout scripture. He continued to communicate with Adam and Eve even after they ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3). As a result of their actions they were removed from the Garden of Eden by God but He continued to communicate with them.

He brings Israel out of Egypt and when then enter the desert he has a Tabernacle built so He can dwell amongst the people. Here he gives Moses His law to give to the people and through His presence and His Word he makes Himself known to Israel.

The ultimate revelation of His goodness is in Jesus Christ. His Son whom He sent to make an accurate revelation of His person and His Word. Now by faith in Jesus Christ we receive eternal life (John 17:3) whereby we come to know Him, the true and living God and Jesus Christ whom He sent.

This knowing comes through the gift of a port of His Spirit called the Holy Spirit given to us when we believe. Through His Spirit dwelling in us does he make Himself known to us.

The person and work of Jesus Christ confirm that God’s will for us is to know Him. That’s why we’re here: to know God.
