How do we know God?

Read the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God. God speaks to us through His Word. His communicates His character and His will in His Word.

Practically speaking here’s what you can do: read two chapters of the Bible in the morning and two chapters in the evening. In the morning begin with the Old Testament (the first Book is Genesis) and in the evening begin with the New Testament (the first Book is Matthew).

You won’t understand everything you read. That’s normal. But keep reading. The more you read the more the Word comes to life and begins to bring understanding to the person and work of God.

Key item: before you begin reading each time pray to God and say something like, “Dear God please reveal Yourself to me as I read Your Word.” This is a must. Pray every time.

The principal of God opening His Word for us to understand is seen after Jesus was raised from the dead. He approached two disciples and during their conversation Jesus shows them where He is in the Scriptures.

Luke 14:27 says, “Then beginning with Moses and with all the Prophets, He (Jesus) explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures”. Read Luke 24:13-35 for the full context.

As you keep reading and asking God to show Himself to you in the Scripture you will have an increasing sense that you know God.
