Jesus: the Life of God in person

One way to understand what Jesus represents is the Life of God in person. We see that He is described as the Word of God but since the Word of God is Life and Light of the world then you can see Him as the Life of God in person.

What this means is when you read of Him healing someone you see the Life of God over coming the result of sin. The leper, blind Bartimaeus, the Gadarene demonic all experienced the Life of God coming upon them to bring forth a healing from the work of sin in their life. Hence the leper no longer had leprosy; Bartimaeus was no longer blind and the demonic was in his right mind.

How does that relate to us: when you come to Jesus to be saved you receive the Life of God into your person (Paul refers to us as temples of the Holy Spirit) which brings forth a healing from the sin in your life. The process of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ results in an immediate forgiveness of our sins and a declaration by God we are justified in His sight meaning we are able to be in His presence. This is confirmed by the gift of the Holy Spirit being imparted to and In us.

Hence when the Holy Spirit is received it goes to work to point us to Christ, His teachings and subsequently make us a new creature. In other words the Life of God is given to us to overcome the work of sin in us and make us a new creature of righteousness. Jesus is both the Life of God in person and the source of the Life of God, the Holy Spirit, being given to us.

This is one reason why we come to Jesus because He possesses the Life of God and gives it us when we believe on His Name. Again, like with the healings in the Gospels, when we call upon His Name to cleanse us from all of unrighteousness this is completed as the Life of God is given to us in the person of the Holy Spirit which makes us a new righteous creature.
