Is the Bible written so that heaven or hell are presented to mankind as their eternal destiny? Does Jesus spend three years preaching to the Jews that they are going to heaven or hell it’s their choice? Is the goal of the Bible and it’s teachings designed to bring men to a place where the only point of life is whether they go to heaven or hell?
The Bible is written so that men can know God. The Bible is written to teach us who God is, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and how we enter into their fellowship (1 John 1:3).
In John 14-16 Jesus emphasizes knowing the Father is the goal of His life. In 1 Peter 1:21 Peter says the point of Jesus is to know God: “who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”
Are there consequences for unbelief? Yes. Jesus says dead branches, unbelievers or souls without the Holy Spirt, are thrown into the fire and are burned (John 15:6).
Do believers go to heaven? Yes. But heaven is where the throne of God the Father is located. To be in heaven is to be with God. Those who get to heaven are those who believe in and know God in this life.
The question the Bible presents is not whether you go to heaven or hell but whether you know God or not. Praise the Lord the Bible tells us who God is and how to know Him.
