God gives us His Spirit when we believe upon His Son Jesus Christ. Why?
1 Corinthians 2:9-11
9 but just as it is written:
“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the human heart,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God.
Paul tells us in Corinthians that the ways of God are revealed to man by His Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:12: Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God.
Here the Spirit’s charge is to reveal to us what God has given us.
1 Corinthians 2:13 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
Here without the Holy Spirit we would never confess that Jesus is Lord.
I John 4:12: By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;
Here the Holy Spirit testifies that Jesus Christ has come to the world and is from God.
John 14:26: But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.
Here the Spirit teaches us and it appears that the Father sends us the Spirit so it will dwell with us since Jesus has returned to His Father’s right hand. In other words the Father’s intent is to dwell with us in this world which He accomplished by sending us the Holy Spirit.
John 4:24a: God is a Spirit….
God is a Spirit and essentially part of Himself enters us individually as the Temple of God (I Corinthians 3:16) when we believe on the Lord Jesus for salvation. Since Jesus is an individual person and unable to be with ever believer individually the Spirit of God is given to us to reveal God to us.
The main message today is that the Spirit is sent to us once we believe in the Son through the Son by the Father as the means of God to reveal Himself to us; to teach us all things and to confirm our faith.
