Psalm Summary
King David defines the blessed man: How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered! How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit! (Psalm 32:1-2)
When he hid his sin he was in torment but he confessed his sin and was forgiven!
David concludes the Psalm with this summary:
“Many are the sorrows of the wicked (those who do not confess their sin),
But he who trusts in the Lord (he who confesses his sin), lovingkindness shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” (Psalm 32:10-11).
Psalm 33 begins with 5 verses of praise! Men made righteous by faith in the Lord should have hearts of praise to the Lord. Why?
For the word (key word of the Psalm) of the Lord is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord. (Psalm 33:4-5)
Through His Word He made everything and because of this realty all the earth should fear the Lord. By His Word He frustrates the counsel of man. Therefore:
“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine.” (Psalm 18-19)
Thus the Lord is the shield of the righteous, their heart rejoices in Him and they ask for His lovingkindness to be upon them (all because of His Word does what it does).
Psalm 34: King David has a total Psalm of praise of the Lord. Why?
“I sought the Lord, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.” ( Psalm 34:4). And, “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.” (Psalm 34:6-7)
This is what is called good news from God’s perspective. That He would hear our cries and answer them is an amazing gift. From His perspective He is blessing us.
You have to read this verses. They are very straight forward:
The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the Lord hears
And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. (Psalm 34:15-19)
The amazing conclusion explains who receives His blessing and those who don’t:
“The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.” (Psalm 34:22)
Friends, if you are redeemed praise the Lord for hearing your cries! If you are not cry out to the Lord for forgiveness of your sins and He will grant. Otherwise you shall perish.
Scripture Summary:
King Solomon begins by exhorting you to keep the Word of the King. He looks upon life and describes the life of the evil man and righteous men. In the end both die but it he says, “still I know that it will be well for those who fear God, who fear Him openly. 13 But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God.” (Ecc 8:12b-13)
So keep the King’s Word, live righteously. But as for a day to day life King Solomon says, “So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.” (Ecc 8:15).
As you keep the King’s Word and labor in His Word eat, drink and be merry in your toils.
Peter asks Jesus what is the reward for following Him? Jesus says to the Apostles, “you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel”. And for everyone else, “they will receive many times as much (of the people and things they have forsaken to follow Christ), and will inherit eternal life”.
Everyone who labors for the Lord will receive the same payment whether you labor for years or one hour. Ultimately receiving eternal life is the central gift. Jesus defines eternal life in John 17:3, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
