Psalms: 86-88: Summary
Psalm 86: the Psalmist is doing 3 things: praising the Lord, asking Him to teach him His ways and defend him from his enemies.
Psalm 87: the Psalmist makes one point: the Lord loves Zion above all dwellings of Jacob.
Psalm 88: the Psalmist is crying our to the Lord to hear him because there is a separation between him and the Lord. A separation as if he is dead. He is troubled because, “Your wrath has swept over me; your dread assaults destroy me.” (vs 16) and “You have caused friend and foe to shun me; my companions are in darkness.” (vs 18).
Scripture readings: Summary
Proverbs 2: The goal of the Christians’ life: seek the wisdom and understanding of the Lord.
If you will seek these two items, which come to us from His Word (this is why you read the Bible daily and ask the Lord to teach you about Him and His ways as you read), you will, verse 5, understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. These two gifts will: deliver you from the ways of the wicked (vs. 12-15) and the adulteress woman (vs 16-19).
Acts 20:1-16: Paul is on the move as usual. Amazingly productive and resilient man. The verses show the following: there remains and effort to stop his preaching (vs. 3); the men traveling with him from the cities where Paul had previously ministered (vs. 4); the healing of Eutychus in Troas (vs. 9); and Paul’s desire to be in Jerusalem for Pentecost.
These types of chapters provide a glimpse into the life of the Apostles to the Gentiles. Like people who want to know how successful or rich people live this is in similar fashion an insight into Paul’s life as he works to further the Gospel.
